The lathe I purchased was in excellent condition. I tell you this because the managers do have some ability to bargin.

Without any attempt to bargin, the manager sold me the lathe (on sale for $1799) with the stand and a 2 year on site warranty (if something went wrong with it they would come to my house and fix it or replace it.never used, btw), plus 8% sales tax for just under $1900. I purchased my 12 x 36 at the local HF store in November, 2002. Unless this is a floor model that is being sold "as is" it should have two chucks. I'm still learning the basics, I don't have the skills to rebuild a lathe. What I have found was (usually) worn out, way to big, or in pretty good shape and too much $$$ for my budget. Sauer38h.I've been looking on and off for a couple years. Don't you just love it! If it ain't on the truck I'll post a bad comment about HF on this forum and buy the lathe from one of the other companies. Apparently they can't find out if it is in stock and if it is, when they can expect it. They told me to call back next thursday when the truck comes and see if a lathe comes in. The HF store I was at when I found the lathe did not have one in stock. Add the stand and the price is now about the same as the other companies. I'd rather have Bisons anyway, but now your at $500-$600 for the chucks. If you buy their chucks (no 4 jaw independent available from HF) and D1-4 back plates, it adds $300 or so to the price.

That's probally how they got the price down to $1800. Enco has cheaper shipping (maybe free), stand is extra for both.Īirgas-Rutland has the package for $2800, everything included except shipping. Grizzly has some extras, 6" 3 jaw and 8" 4 jaw. Enco has the Baldor motor option and a 7" instead of a 8" 4 jaw.
